J4 leavers sing “Follow Me”

So today is J4’s last day at the Firs School and to mark the occasion we are putting the song that Sophia G composed onto the internet for downloading. A few months ago Sophia, Katie and Elizabeth from J4 went to a recording studio in Chester run by Glyn Jones of the Light project.

J3 at the Chester Mystery plays

For those of you who haven’t yet been to see the Chester mystery plays make sure you seize the opportunity soon before they close. Our J3 class have been performing in them acting as animals in Noah’s ark and various other scenes in the 1st play “The Fufillment”. The cathedral green has been transformed into an open air play house and the quality of the acting, music and story is exceptional. As good as any trip to the theatre that Manchester, Liverpool or even London can offer. The only problem is Chester has to wait another 5 years before we have the chance to go again! Firs Fun Day goes ahead successfully despite the rain!

Despite the miserable weather for mid-summers day the Firs Fun Day was a resounding success raising over £2000! The turn-out remained as high as ever, perhaps due to the fact that other events in the area had been cancelled. However the FSDF and the estate staff were made of tougher stuff and events were quickly rescheduled to take place in the classrooms. Special thanks must go to Mrs Ellis and the rest of the FSDF parents who put in a tremendous amount of work to make the day a success as well as Mr Robson, our estate manager, and his team of Chris Cartlidge and Dan Ridgway.

Top infants visit Martin Mere

Forty one year top infants (Y2) visited the Wildfowl and Wetland Centre near Southport in June. The purpose of the visit was to see all the ducks, geese and swans they have been studying this term. Caring for the environment, in particular wetland habitats, has been part of their project.
Great fun was had on the play area and the weather was perfect – they were even able to picnic out on the mere – to the delight of the geese!
