Bake-a-cake-athon

On March 4th our school hall was filled with many wonderful and imaginative cakes. A Bake-A-Cake-Athon, organised by Mrs Cheshire proved a big success. The sale of the cakes raised £300.91 in aid of K Azariah the Indian charity which works to improve the lives of underprivileged adults and children. The money will help towards the cost of sponsoring the six children The Firs support through the charity.

Mrs Patino Pan and Mrs Badrock our school cooks had the difficult task of judging the entries.

The winners were ……..

Thomas Brennan KG
Charlie Fearnall RJ
Harriet Dunlap MIW
Nathan Parker TIH
Joe and Sam Bergin TIP and J1
Imogen Littler J2
Roddy and Harry Balmer J1 and J3
John-Harvey Brooke-Rankin J4

Well Done to all who took part!

J4 Visit to the Salt Museum

On Thursday 28th February our J4 class visited the Salt Museum in Northwich to support their current history topic the Victorians. They had a wonderful day and experienced many aspects of Victorian daily life. The children learnt about games and toys Victorians used to play, how a Victorian home was run and what life was like in the workhouse.

They especially enjoyed making butter, washing the clothes, undertaking the daily workhouse drill and playing with all the toys.

They were not so keen on the gruel the workhouse residents used to eat daily!

Victorian toys were quite amusing!

A wash in the workhouse

This would have taken some practice

Tumble dryers are so much easier….

Scraping the carbolic soap ready to wash

Workhouse drill (should we reintroduce this to the Firs?)
