Our J2s go Orienteering

On the 14th and 17th March our J2 classes spent two fun, action packed days orienteering in Delamere Forest. Linking in with our geography, maths and science curriculum the activity provided a fun, active and educational day out.

The morning was spent learning important skills such as reading and interpreting a compass, drawing maps and learning the skills necessary to navigate around the forest. The afternoon put these skills in to practice as the children completed the orienteering course.

Many thanks to Mrs Kimber, Mrs Lanni, Mrs Littler, Mr Faulkner, Mrs Cheshire and Mrs Gruffudd-Jones our parents helpers who needed lots of energy to keep up with our enthusiastic and very fast J2s!

5 stars for the Firs School catering team!

Congratulations to Mrs Patino Pan our cook and her team for gaining a 5 star rating from Chester environmental health. This is the highest rating that can be awarded and shows exemplary dedication to food safety and handling. The food is excellent as well! (though the inspectors don’t judge this…) To view our report please go to the following link www.scoresonthedoors.co.uk.

Birkenhead Science Fair

On the 29th of February, J3 went to Birkenhead school to visit their science fair. It was put on by the pupils. As soon as we walked in we noticed a big black dome: it looked really exciting

There were rockets being launched into the air and loud bangs making us all jump and cover our ears, balloons bursting (and surprisingly not bursting). One of the Birkenhead boys set his hair on fire (by accident but he was fine).

We were allowed to hold a snake and stick insects and Charlotte was shrink-wrapped!

We wore safety goggles to keep us safe and we all had a wonderful time and learned a lot. Many thanks to the mums who came with us: you really helped to make the trip a huge success.

J4 Football Match vs Alford (Abbeygate)

On the 11th March 08, the Firs school played against Alford (Abbey gate) school away, in a competitive match.

We played 2 periods of 15 minutes. In the first period Alford scored a goal, but we did not let that make us feel down we carried till half time.

In the second period we still carried on and we equalised against them. That really did get are hopes up more. The goal was scored by Michael Pino. We carried on fighting, until Alford crept a goal in to make it 2-1. We still gave it are all right to the end. We still had some very close chances but unfortunately none of them went in.
