J2 Smokebusters

On January 29th the Cheshire Fire service visited the Firs to help J2 pupils to learn about Fire safety. The children learnt about how to prevent a fire occurring, what you need to do in the event of a fire, to encourage them to make a home fire plan with their family and to demonstrate what to do if you find yourself in a smoke filled room. The firemen also gave the pupils a chance to explore their fire engine. Afterwards both classes worked on making posters to inform others of the dangers and what to do.

The smoke filled tent gave the pupils a chance to experience what the conditions were like and what to do if caught in this situation.

Hoole bridge closure and a new zebra crossing

On February 11th the Hoole Bridge will be closed for 12 weeks due to essential repairs. It is expected that this will cause severe disruption to Chester traffic. For full details of the closure and a map showing the diversion routes please follow the following link. This map has been distributed to parents.

http://www.cheshire.gov.uk/PR/2007/november07/449-07_map.htm

We have been asked by the council to put out parking cones along Newton lane in front of the school since it is expected that there will be a large amount of diverted traffic along the road outside the school. Parents are asked, as always, to park at St. Columba’s and walk down to the school.

The good news is that there will be a new zebra crossing and widened pavement on the corner of Wealstone lane and Newton lane to make the walk from St. Columba’s easier. Work is progressing well and the workmen on site believe they will be finished by the time the school restarts after half-term.

Have a good half-term holiday!

The Firs Admin team.
