On Tuesday 27th November J3 spent a wonderful day at the Salt Museum in Northwich, learning about how the Tudors celebrated Christmas.

They kept us very busy and highly entertained. First we were introduced to Master Tom, the head servant and Sergeant John of the Watch.

After a few minutes we heard singing and a ragged man appeared at the door. It was Rufty, the beggar. He was allowed to stay for the twelve days of Christmas. We all helped to set the table for the Christmas Feast and sang a special song when the Boar’s Head was carried in.

Sergeant John told us all about the weapons and taught us single stick fighting and some people practised firing the canon! The barber surgeon (in blood-stained apron) had to help an injured man.

Some people dressed up as mummers and performed a play for the rest of us. Finally we all learned to play Tudor instruments and finished off with Tudor dancing in a circle. We had a wonderful time………. You really should try it.
