Knowledge Box Primary Learning Environment

Over the summer the Firs invested in the Knowledge Box primary learning platform from Pearson. Our teachers can now easily search for IT based resources across the whole curriculum and incorporate them into the lessons using the interactive whiteboards. No more searching for that CD-ROM!

Even better our teachers can plan lessons from home using the external link. This is available from the following URL http://81.149.219.173:9000/ Sign in using the same user name and password as you use at the Firs. Please note: In order to use Knowledge Box you must have the latest versions of Flash, Java and Real Player installed on your PC at home. In order to do this go to the following link and install the programs. http://www.uk.knowledgebox.com/index.phtml?d=28363 Happy knowledgeboxing!

The plan for the future is that pupils will also be able to log-in to our Knowledge Box to do homework.

Harvest Service Arrangements

Dear Parents

Our Harvest service will take place on Thursday 18th October at 2.15 p.m. at All Saints Church, Hoole and you are warmly invited to join us.

Harvest gifts of dried and tinned foods will be donated to Save the Family. Save the Family is a local charity which supports homeless families and tries to keep them together. The Firs School supports a cottage at Plas Bellin, a community which receives homeless families and offers training and support. If you would like further information about Save the Family please look on their website, www.savethefamily.uk.com.

Gifts may be brought to school on the morning of the service and should be left in the pottery room.

Children will not need their school bags on Thursday 18th October and if they usually bring a packed lunch please send this in disposable containers.

As the service marks the end of this half term we would ask that children are collected from church at the end of the service approximately 3.15 p.m.

The only children that we can bring back to school are those who usually go to after school care. After school care will finish at the usual time.

Thanks for a great Open Morning

A big thanks to all who helped out at the Firs Open Morning. We had a steady stream of people including quite a number people who made contact with us for the first time. It was a beautiful morning, which showed the school grounds off to it’s best. Visitors were shown round by J3 and J4 pupils. One of the visitors told us that our pupil guides “Were a real credit to the school”. Thank you J3 and J4!

In addition to meeting teachers and pupils, visitors got to watch a football match, hear the choir sing and see pottery being made in our pottery studio as well as other clubs and activites. A special video was displayed on the new projector in the hall. Refreshments were offered at the end of the tour to allow our visitors to informally chat with staff.

This was the video that was shown in the hall.

National Bookstart Day was held on Friday 5th October. The theme this year was jungles and the Early Years department held a party with games, stories and rhymes promoting the theme.
